WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WEDDING MAKEUP TRIAL?

We asked our very own Rosie Roberts Beauty for some tips on your wedding makeup trial and this is what she said!

A question I get asked all the time as an alternative wedding makeup artist is “How can I get the most out of my wedding makeup trial, and put it to the test?” - well, I got you boo!

My number one recommendation is to book it for a day you’re doing something so you can really put the makeup to the test! Makeup will usually stay almost flawless if you’re sitting and relaxing, watching Netflix all day - but you won’t be sitting doing nothing your wedding day so you don’t get the true longevity test! You want to be doing something that involves movement. Do something special! Go for a meal, go to a gig to see your favourite band, attend a party, a dance class, ANYTHING! Heck, even go and  try on your wedding outfit, or even attend another wedding! The options are endless! 👀

Ensure all aspects of your appearance complement each other! If you're uncertain about your look and whether it will work together, try to schedule your trial on a day when you can view all the components of your wedding look together. Many people have their makeup trial on one day, their hair trial on another, and try on their outfit on a different day, only to see the complete vision on the actual day. What if the makeup is perfect, and the outfit is too, but the colours clash and don't harmonize as well as you imagined? By testing them together beforehand, you can identify any issues early and make necessary adjustments!

Evaluate the results of your wedding makeup trial, and ensure it meets your expectations, and your wants are met! Are the colours what you imagined? Do you love how your complexion looks? Do you feel you look hot as heck? If you love it when it’s first applied, but it doesn’t wear well and moves through the day, always take pictures of it to send to your makeup artist to be able to discuss a plan to combat that!

And finally, go into your makeup trial knowing that you can have more than one trial! It doesn’t have to be one and done, you can have as many trials as you need to ensure you feel your most confident! If you’re torn between two looks, why not try both. There is nothing worse than having a “what if”. What if I had a big wing liner instead? What if I added a brighter pink eyeshadow? What if I went more natural? By having another trial, you can answer that question yourself!

Your wedding makeup should make you feel epic, and the trial is there to create a trial run to make sure on your wedding day, you get the exact look you want. It also ensures you vibe perfectly with your makeup artist. After all, they spend 1:1 time with you when you're often feeling a bit emotional!
